Manufacturer Safety Recall
Recently, questions have arisen regarding vehicles with open manufacturer recalls relative to Vermont Safety Inspections. If an open recall has been identified on a given vehicle which would cause rejection per the Vermont Periodic Inspection Manual, the vehicle cannot pass inspection until such repairs have been remedied. All Inspection stations will be made aware of open recalls as an automatic process through the Automated Vehicle Inspection Program (AVIP) once the system goes live. In the interim, if you are aware of an open recall directly corresponding to a safety component, please review the Periodic Inspection Manual's rejection criteria accordingly when determining whether or not the vehicle should pass a State Safety Inspection. If you are unsure, please contact your area DMV investigator.
