Course Descriptions

The Basic Rider Course is for novice riders, those with limited riding experience, and riders who haven't ridden for some time. This 18-hour course, combining riding exercises and classroom time, teaches the basic skills needed to operate a motorcycle in traffic.

The Scooter Basic Rider Course is for those individuals who have decided to ride a scooter. The course teaches the basic skills needed to operate a scooter in traffic. Training includes five hours of classroom activities and ten hours of on-scooter riding exercises. Students learn riding skills by practicing on small scooters. Students must demonstrate they have the strength, balance, and coordination to perform straight-line riding, turning, and stopping exercises. During the course, students are also introduced to the strategies needed for riding a scooter on the street. Skills taught include emergency braking, swerving, and proper cornering techniques.

The Intermediate Rider Course is a one-day course designed for students who have completed the Basic RiderCourse and wish more range practice time on the motorcycle. Emphasis is placed on the skill needs of the student.

The Experienced Rider Course - License Waiver is a one-day course designed for riders who do not possess a driver's license with a motorcycle endorsement. The course includes riding exercises and discussions on motorcycle safety. Exercises practiced help riders hone their motorcycle skills, including emergency braking, swerving, proper cornering techniques, and slow-speed maneuvers.

The Experienced Rider Course - Skills Plus is a one-day course designed for riders who are already licensed and frequently ride. The course includes riding exercises and discussions on motorcycle safety. Exercises practiced help riders hone their motorcycle skills, including emergency braking, swerving, proper cornering techniques, and slow-speed maneuvers.

The Rider Coach Preparation Course teaches experienced riders how to instruct the Motorcycle Safety Foundation's Basic RiderCourse curriculum.
