Renew Online

Renewing online is fast, easy, and secure. You can renew most types of vehicles including ATVs, motorboats, snowmobiles, trailers, and more. Upon completion, you will receive a temporary registration that is valid for 10 days. A permanent registration and sticker will be mailed to you.

You are eligible to renew online if you:

  • Received a renewal notice, and
  • Your registration is fewer than 10 months past expiration

Renewal of ATV Registration

Normally you will receive a computer-printed renewal application in the mail (approximately 3 weeks before your current registration is due to expire). Upon receipt of the computer-printed renewal application you must sign the application and return it to the VT DMV together with the renewal fee that is indicated on the application. If you choose to mail your renewal application to the VT DMV it should take approximately two weeks for your renewed registration to be returned to you.

Your renewed registration will consist of the registration certificate (which must be carried in the vehicle whenever it is being operated) and stickers which must be attached in the appropriate area of your plates/tags.

If you do not receive the computer-printed application it will be necessary for you to complete a Vermont Motor Vehicle Registration, Tax and Title application (form #VD-119) and deliver the completed application (together with the appropriate fees) to our main office in Montpelier.

If it is necessary for you to complete a Vermont Registration, Tax and Title application for renewal of your Vermont registration, you must complete Sections 1, 2, 4 and 8. You must also enter the plate number for the registration you are renewing (in Section 1A of the form).

Most questions you may have regarding this type of transaction may be answered by reading the instructions (form #VD-119i) pertaining to the Vermont Motor Vehicle Registration, Tax and Title Application.

 

Renewal of Motorboat Registration

Normally you will receive a computer-printed renewal application in the mail (approximately 3 weeks before your current registration is due to expire). Upon receipt of the computer-printed renewal application you must sign the application and return it to the VT DMV together with the renewal fee that is indicated on the application. If you choose to mail your renewal application to the VT DMV it should take approximately two weeks for your renewed registration to be returned to you.

NOTE: Vessel validations expire annually, at midnight the last day of December. Your registration renewal application must be accompanied by:

  • A copy of your out-of-state registration, or
  • A valid document issued by the U.S. Coast Guard, the U.S. Bureau of Customs or any other federal agency.

Your renewed registration will consist of the registration certificate and decals which must be attached in the appropriate area on your motorboat.

If you do not receive the computer-printed application it will be necessary for you to complete a Vermont Motorboat Registration Application and deliver the completed application (together with the appropriate fees) to our main office in Montpelier. These cannot be processed by any of our satellite offices.

If it is necessary for you to complete a Vermont Motorboat Registration Application (form #VD-037) for renewal of your Vermont motorboat registration, you must complete you must be sure to enter your Vermont vessel registration number for the registration you are renewing (together with completing all other appropriate areas of the application).

Renewal of Snowmobile Registration

  • Vermont Snowmobile Registrations expire annually at midnight on the last day of August.
  • Vermont Snowmobile Registration Applications received by this Department within 30 days of the end of the current registration period are issued to expire at the end of the subsequent registration period.
  • An Antique Snowmobile Registration is permanent (no expiration date).
  • Renewal fee

Note: A registration is valid only when a registration certificate (temporary or regular) has been issued.
