What is the Vermont Rider Education Program Basic Rider Course?

The Basic RiderCourse is a motorcycle-training course for novice riders and those with limited riding experience, as well as riders who haven’t ridden for some time. This course, containing a combination of riding exercises and classroom time, teaches the basic skills needed to operate a motorcycle in traffic. Students successfully completing this course will be exempt from taking the state required motorcycle written test and skill exam.

Vermont Rider Education Program (VREP)

The Vermont Rider Education Program was established in 1990 to offer motorcycle rider training to anyone who wishes to enjoy the sport of motorcycling. The Program offers instructional courses to make your motorcycling safer and more enjoyable. 

Vermont Motorcycle Awareness Program (VMAP)

The Vermont Motorcycle Awareness Program (VMAP) is a 4-hour basic motorcycle safety course for individuals interested in obtaining a motorcycle learner permit or endorsement. VMAP is designed to introduce new riders to basic information regarding the complexities of safe motorcycle operation. Attendees successfully completing the VMAP course will be issued a Vermont motorcycle learner permit.

Military Skills Test Waiver Application

To waiver the commercial driver license (CDL) skills test for VT driver licensed service members who are/were employed within the past year (12 months) in a military position requiring the operation of a military motor vehicle equivalent to a commercial motor vehicle (CMV).

  • Driver's License, 4 Year - $51.00
  • Driver's License, Converting from another State - see below
  • Driver's License, Duplicate - $20.00
  • Enhanced Driver's License (Additonal) - $30.00
  • Junior Driver's License - $32.00
  • Learner's Permit, New/Renew/Duplicate - $20.00
  • RDL (Ignition Interlock Restricted License) - $125.00
