TYPE OF EVENT(S):  Commercial Motor Vehicle Crash

LOCATION OF EVENT(S):  Vermont Route 78 in Swanton

INVESTIGATING INSPECTOR(S):  Sgt Michael Morris, Lt Matthew Nesto      

SUMMARY:  On 08/20/24 at approximately 1:05 p.m., Vermont State Police in St. Albans were made aware that a tractor trailer had crashed on VT 78 in Swanton between Mac’s Bend and the U.S. Wildlife Refuge. The motor carrier operating the tractor trailer was identified as SBPS Trans, Inc., from Indianapolis, IN. DMV Inspectors and VSP responded and discovered that the tractor trailer swerved to avoid a collision with another vehicle that crossed over the center line. The tractor trailer then lost control and subsequently went into the Missisquoi River.

The driver of the tractor trailer was identified as Balwinder Singh, age 40, of Fresno, CA. Singh was transported to Northwest Medical Center in St. Albans with non-life-threatening injuries. 

Responding agencies were DMV Commercial Vehicle Enforcement, Vermont State Police, Swanton Fire Department, Missisquoi Ambulance, Franklin County Sheriff, Vermont Agency of Natural Resources, and Vermont Fish & Wildlife.
