LOCATION OF EVENT(S): Vermont Route 105/South Richford Rd, Richford

SUMMARY: On 1/7/25 at approximately 14:15 p.m., Vermont State Police and Vermont DMV Inspectors were made aware that a crash had occurred on VT 105 in Richford and involved a passenger car and a school bus that was carrying students from Richford High School.

DMV and VSP responded and discovered that the passenger car had lost control during inclement weather, left its lane of travel, and crossed into the path of the school bus that was traveling in the opposite direction. No injuries occurred due to this crash. The passenger car was disabled.

The motor carrier operating the school bus was identified as Grand Avenue Enterprises, Inc., of Swanton, VT. The driver of the school bus was identified as Richard Firth, 70, of Richford.

The driver of the passenger car was identified as Gavin Smith Sr., 56, of Barrington Hills, IL.

Responding agencies were DMV Commercial Vehicle Enforcement, Vermont State Police-St Albans, Richford Fire Department, and Vermont Agency of Transportation.
