SUBJECT: Commercial Motor Vehicle Crash

TYPE OF EVENT(S): Tractor trailer crash

LOCATION OF EVENT(S): Vermont Route 58, Irasburg

INVESTIGATING INSPECTOR(S): Sergeant Jacobs and Inspector Cotnoir

 

SUMMARY: 

On the date and time above, DMV Enforcement and Safety Inspectors Cotnoir and Jacobs responded to the vicinity of 1864 VT 58 in Irasburg for a commercial vehicle rollover with reported injuries. Upon arrival of the scene, the inspectors located a tractor-trailer combination overturned and off the roadway. The operator, Mahendra Itwaru, 41 of Schenectady, NY, had been transported to North Country Hospital in Newport for minor injuries that he sustained as a result of the crash. Itwaru was employed by The Golub Corporation and delivering refrigerated food items to Market 32 in Derby. The Freightliner tractor and enclosed refrigerated trailer sustained disabling damage as a result of the crash. The cause of the crash was found to be driver error. At the time of the crash, the roads were covered with snow and ice.

 

The truck and trailer were towed from the scene by Ray’s Auto Service. DMV was assisted at the scene by Vermont State Police, Irasburg Fire Department, Orleans Ambulance, and B&B Towing.
