INCIDENT NUMBER: 24MV007030
TYPE OF EVENT(S): Motor vehicle crash involving a commercial motor vehicle
LOCATION OF EVENT(S): Interstate 89 Southbound in Middlesex at MM 57
INVESTIGATING INSPECTOR(S): Insp. Boutin, Insp. Ross, Cpl. Morris
SUMMARY: On June 26, 2024, at approximately 8:39 a.m., a box truck commercial motor vehicle (CMV) crossed the fog line and struck a vehicle that was disabled in the breakdown lane. The force of the crash pushed the disabled vehicle into the ditch. The box truck left the roadway and came to a position of rest on the adjacent railroad tracks about 30 yards from the southbound I-89 travel lanes. The sole occupant of the passenger vehicle sustained apparent non-life-threatening injuries, and the commercial motor vehicle driver was not injured.
ROAD CLOSURE(S): As crews continue efforts to recover the box truck, I-89 Southbound at MM 57 is reduced to one lane. Due to the CMV coming to rest on the railroad tracks, those tracks are being closed to trains. The removal of the CMV from the tracks will require additional equipment to be brought to the scene. Road and track closures are expected to last approximately two more hours, or until 2:00 p.m. today.
UPDATES WILL BE PROVIDED AS DETAILS ARE AVAILABLE. This crash investigation is still underway.
MOTORISTS SHOULD EXPECT DELAYS AND SEEK ALTERNATE ROUTES AND DRIVE SLOWLY.
