SUMMARY:
On 2/28/24 at approximately 2:30 a.m., DMV Enforcement Inspectors were dispatched to a single vehicle commercial motor vehicle crash on Vermont Route 105 in Bloomfield. The tractor trailer was traveling east on VT 105 when it encountered black ice on a sharp curve. The vehicle left the roadway, and the trailer overturned. The tractor trailer was towed due to disabling damage. Shortly thereafter, a second commercial motor vehicle partially left the roadway in the same location, nearly striking the previous truck that had not yet been removed. The second vehicle sustained significant damage but did not require a tow truck. Post crash inspections were conducted on both commercial vehicles. The portion of roadway that was icy was approximately 200 feet in length.
At the scene, a Vermont Agency of Transportation pickup truck was applying salt to treat the icy area of the roadway. The pickup, which was traveling less than 10 miles per hour, slid into a third tractor trailer that was parked and static at the scene. That tractor trailer was towed from the scene due to disabling damage.
No injuries were sustained in connection with the above collisions. VT 105 was reduced to one lane and intermittently closed from 2:30 a.m. until approximately 11:30 a.m. 2/28/24. The combined above incidents are currently under investigation.
