Your Vermont Department of Motor Vehicles is getting better, faster, and more convenient. In an effort to modernize, we are now offering more services online for your convenience.
Create An Account
Creating an online DMV account is easy and free, and it will give you access to more online services and enable you to complete future transactions faster.
New Online Services
New online services are now available for faster and easier transactions. The new services include license plate replacement, title replacement, lien-holder status, and verification of the availability of specific vanity plates.
Same-Day Transactions for In-Person Appointments
Most vehicle registration and title transactions are now completed on the same day during in-person appointments. In most cases, customers will leave the DMV with their license plate, registration, and/or title.
Registration Cards and Stickers Discontinued
The DMV no longer issues registration cards and stickers. Instead, your vehicle registration document will be a standard 8.5 x 11 inch paper, and Vermont law now allows you to carry and display proof of registration electronically on a portable device such as a phone. See news article for vehicles, motorboats, and snowmobiles for more detail.
All vehicles must be titled effective January 1st, 2024. For more information, see our page on Tax & Title.
