SUMMARY: On 03/22/2024 at approximately 6:27 a.m., Vermont State Police and Vermont Department of Motor Vehicles were dispatched to a single commercial motor vehicle crash with unknown injury or hazards on Interstate 93 southbound, mile marker 4.8, in the Town of Waterford.

Upon arrival, the operator was identified as Jerry Leonard, 48, of Lyndon, Vermont. The commercial motor vehicle was identified as a grey 2023 Peterbilt 389 with a black 2023 Wally-Mo Car Hauler loaded with six motor vehicles. There were no reported injuries. The driver was screened by Calex Ambulance Services personnel.

The operator stated that while he was traveling southbound on Interstate 93, a deer entered the roadway from the median and began running northwest on Interstate 93 to cross. The operator applied his brakes and moved from the travel lane to the passing lane to avoid hitting the deer but lost control of the trailer, which began to swerve back and forth. Due to loss of control of the trailer, the commercial motor vehicle began to drift into the median. The operator attempted to correct the trailer by turning the steering wheel to the right causing the commercial motor vehicle to become overturned onto its driver’s side.

The Vermont Department of Motor Vehicles was assisted by Vermont State Police, Waterford Fire Department, and Calex Ambulance Service. The commercial motor vehicle was removed by Ray's Auto Services and B&B Towing and Recovery.
