All plates on this page require a completed Vermont Certificate of Veteran Status, which must be certified by the Vermont Office of Veterans Affairs and can be used on vehicles registered at the pleasure car rate and trucks registered for less than 26,001 lbs (excluding vehicles registered under IRP). Some license plates require a one-time fee (see description). None of these license plates can be personalized/vanity plates.
Any veteran may apply for a non-specific Veterans' Plate with an American flag and "V" designation.

Air Medal
The Air Medal is a military decoration of the United States Armed Forces. It was created in 1942 and is awarded for single acts of heroism or meritorious achievement while participating in aerial flight.

Disabled Veteran

- Universal Medical Evaluation/Progress Report (form #VS-113) unless a medical has been filed within the last four years. Active Duty applicants must submit a copy of their military ID.
Bronze Star
The Bronze Star Medal is a United States Armed Forces decoration awarded to United States Armed Forces members for either heroic achievement, heroic service, meritorious achievement, or meritorious service in a combat zone.

Gold Star Family & Next of Kin
A special motor vehicle license plate for Gold Star Families, as defined in 10 U.S.C. §1126. The Gold Star Family license plate identifies widows, parents, and next of kin of members of the Armed Forces of the United States who lost their lives during a war, military conflict, international terrorist attack, or military operations. The plates will be reissued only to the original holder of the plates and are not subject to any special plate fees.
Gold star plates shall be issued to the widow or widower, parents, and next of kin as defined in 10 U.S.C. § 1126(d) of members of the U.S. Armed Forces who lost their lives under the circumstances described in 10 U.S.C. § 1126(a).
Next-of-kin plates shall be issued to the widow or widower, parents, and next of kin as defined in 10 U.S.C. § 1126(d) of members of the Armed Forces not eligible for gold star plates under subdivision (A) of this subdivision (1) who lost their lives while serving on active duty or on active duty for training, or while assigned in a Reserve or National Guard unit in drill status, or as a result of injury or illness incurred during such service or assignment.

In Theater Plates
Each plate listed below requires actual "boots on the ground" service. For example, Serving during the Gulf War does not qualify one to receive the Gulf War plate. You must have actually served in theater.
