Automated Vehicle Inspection Program (AVIP)

  • AVIP offers instant access to required inspection procedures and rejection criteria.
  • Rejection criteria can be instantly shown to a motorist.

Faded Plates

Any Vermont registration plate that has faded to a point in which its numbers and letters have impaired identification must be replaced. Replacement of faded plates is at no cost to the owner if the fading is caused by faulty materials or a problem with the manufacturing process.  

Inspection Stations

All motor vehicles registered in Vermont must be inspected once each year at state-approved inspection stations. Any newly registered vehicle not currently inspected in Vermont must be inspected within 15 days of registration.

The fee for the inspection shall be based on the hourly rate of the official inspection station or may be a flat-rate fee. The rate must be prominently posted and displayed beside the official inspection station certificate in either instance.

Can a Winnebago Travato be inspected in Vermont?

Yes.

The Vermont Periodic Inspection Manual (VPIM) inspection criteria say this would be a failure. After careful consideration by the Enforcement and Safety Division, Vermont Department of Motor Vehicles, it has been determined that the vehicle should pass provided the following is true -

If the vehicle is manufactured in this manner, has a properly affixed Vehicle Emission Control Information (VECI) label, and has not been altered by the customer, it should pass inspection. The properly affixed VECI label means the vehicle meets Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS) and U.S. federal vehicle regulations specifying design, construction, performance, and durability requirements for motor vehicles and regulated automobile safety-related components, systems, and design features.
